WeWork Now Eyes College Campuses | Opens 1st Coworking Space at University of Maryland
Universities are the hubs of growth and learning. But what if the real world comes inside the gates of a university? WeWork Labs in its first, have established a coworking space in the University of Maryland. Such a move has inspired a lot of people on and off campus and made them aware of a new concept that is ruling the startup world as of now.
Maryland’s Governor has expressed profound appreciation and satisfaction towards this venture and also said “We are incredibly proud that Maryland’s first WeWork workplace is their first location on a college campus in the entire country.”
This new venture by WeWork will allow the students and the researchers to come together with industrialists and entrepreneurs. This new mix of people from four distinct backgrounds is a calling to create something better and something new. Students will come to know the dynamics of the business world and what it means to work within a community, the researchers will get a chance to showcase their studies to the industrialists and their inventions to budding startups for better growth. The industrialists will get a pool of human capital in one place and they won’t have to look out for young talent lastly, the startups will stand to gain the most out of the collaboration of the various groups of people.
Spread across 16,500 square feet of area, the new coworking space by WeWork will have around 300 desks and conference rooms as well as community spaces. The membership plans will span across dedicated desks, hot desks, temporary desks, and private offices.
There are other spaces surrounding the WeWork Labs including the Capital One innovation hub and a Hotel at the University of Maryland. Following in the footsteps of WeWork, Adobe is also planning to open up shop inside the four walls of the campus in a move to bring together entrepreneurs, larger companies, students, and researchers.
When asked about the benefits of this venture, WeWork director of business operations for Northeast and Mid-Atlantic exclaims that “The unique partnership model is a first for WeWork and presents us with a huge opportunity to access the vast talent pipeline and innovative atmosphere of the UMD campus.”

The official address of the new coworking space is 7761 Diamondback Drive, located off Baltimore Avenue where an old building is remodeled to construct the latest and first coworking space in Maryland.
WeWork is one of the largest organizations that provide coworking spaces to entrepreneurs, startups, and freelancers. They have built a huge network of coworking spaces in various countries including The United States, The UK, Vietnam, India, Argentina, Canada, Australia, and China among others. Some of the world’s largest companies operate from their coworking spaces and are able to leverage the resources provided by them.
WeWork has taken the first step by establishing their first coworking space in Maryland and is planning to open another space in Baltimore’s Harbour Point by the year 2020.
