The spring of 2019 is bringing something to cheer for Boston as the city will have its own women focussed coworking space right here in Back Bay. The Wing, which is successfully operating other coworking spaces in San Francisco, Washington DC, and New York has decided to open up another coworking space which will be located at 699 Boylston Street, Boston.
The Wing is also known for establishing the first Women only coworking space in the United States. Since then various organizations and coworking enthusiasts have opened up similar shops in various countries and cities around the world.
Conversing with Zara Rahim it was found that the objective of such a venture is to advance women economically, socially and civically. The women only coworking spaces are made with the sole purpose of advancing women into the sphere of entrepreneurship and help them achieve a higher status in the society.
When asked what makes them different from other coworking spaces Rahim said: “The Wing is a place that you go, and when the doors open, there are women working on roundtables and collaborating and asking each other what they do and talking about projects that they’re working on and really having a community-based experience.”
It seems that The Wing aims to create a women-centric environment in the city with the help of this venture and they want to project women power onto the people of Boston. Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Maya Rudolph, and Kerry Washington are a part of The Wing and take part in their events.
One thing that may confuse people is that will they allow men and people from other genders into the premises? To answer this Rahim replied that “We want as many people to apply as possible” and emphasized that The wing is women-focused and not just a women centric coworking space.
This clarifies their stance that they are not segregating the women of Boston rather they want to turn The Wing into a credible pit-stop for women where they can be a part of something bigger and are able to leverage from the community.
Talking about the new space that will be ready within the next few months, this time The Wing will operate from two penthouse floors, a total area of 10,500 square feet. Rahim explains the new coworking space as “incredibly gorgeous”. Most probably because of the expansive 360° view of the Back Bay, Beacon Hill and the Charles River.
In amenities, they promise to provide all the necessary services that are found in all of the coworking spaces. In addition to this, The Wing Boston will have showers, beauty rooms, lockers, seasonal terraces, a restaurant, and most importantly a mother’s room. The Wing has previously established the Little Wing which caters to the infants at the coworking spaces and now they are expanding on that with their exclusive mother’s rooms.
Above all the stereotype perspective of our society will be surpassed by the women-focused coworking spaces. Women entrepreneurs working from these spaces will feel safe, secure, move in the right direction, build a trusted network and it will help women break the shackles of patriarchal control.
